Obama’s Nomination Acceptance Speech
Given on August 28th 2008 in Denver in front of 75,000 people: Obama’s acceptance speech of the Democratic Party’s nomination for president of the US. (text) and an Interactive video.
I know that many of the things he raises in this speech e may not be able to deliver on. I understand there are forces outside his control which can determine the conversation and dynamics in politics. However, I do think that the way in which Obama speaks, composes himself and delivers the impression of change he affects peoples confidence and hope. By giving people hope he gives people a lift in themselves. Hope gives us the ability to believe in ourselves and vision for a better world to live in. Hope gives purpose.
I understand that there are many who say that we are only in an economic recession because people keep talking like we are. Consumer confidence is critical in our economy and I get that. What I also think is that if confidence can have an impact on the economy, doesn’t confidence have an impact on the political and social landscapes of a nation? I do not think that Obama can fix all the problems of the world, but I do think that he gives confidence and hope. These things empower people, average Americans, to create, innovate, develop the change he is talking about. Why do I support Obama? Because he brings out the human potential – and the human potential can change the world.
