Salvation for us now

March 11, 2009 at 9:14 pm (Salvation)

I was sitting with a friend of mine and she mentioned talked a lot about salvation. It was in listening to her that I came to be reminded that salvation has a root ‘salve’. Salve, as we know, is a healing ointment. Salvation is about healing and wholeness for the here and now.

If someone breaks their arm we apply healing ointments right away. We do not say, “Well, your arm is broke now, but in the after life you will be made whole.” Even if this may be the case, we still look to work for healing and wholeness for a broken arm.

We do the immediate work for a broken arm, why not for a broken spirit? What about broken systems? Broken food chains? Broken homes? Broken lives? Broken relationships?

Salvation is about healing and wholeness – whenever and wherever we encounter brokenness.
